RCT Council have confirmed that they are to build a new top of the range 3g surface at Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School for the local community. Added to this is the extra special news that an athletics track will be added to the perimeter of the field.
This is amazing news for the community and particularly Beddau RFC who have been pivitol in the negotiation stages. A huge thank you and well done in particular goes to Junior section Chairman Rod Davey who has been hugely instrumental in getting these facilities in the area.

The Council has confirmed plans to create a new purpose-built athletics track as part of its 3G sports pitch development in Beddau – and it will also explore options to upgrade the current athletics facility in Clydach Vale.
The Council has now announced that its plans for a new 3G sports pitch at Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School, Beddau, will include an all-weather synthetic six-lane running track around the perimeter of the pitch, and a 100m sprint area along one of the straights. As part of this commitment, the Council has also announced it has future plans to improve the current athletics facility at King George’s Park in Clydach Vale, by upgrading the running track.
The Council is committed to improving outdoor leisure facilities through #RCTinvest, and is aiming to provide an accessible 3G sports pitch within three miles of every resident, no matter where they live in Rhondda Cynon Taf. So far, nine have been delivered, while pitches in Porth and Ferndale are being built and future schemes in Beddau and Penywaun are progressing.
Meanwhile, excellent progress continues to be made in constructing the £3m, state-of-the-art athletics facilities in Aberdare, which will be delivered this year as part of the wider £67m Education and Leisure investment at the Sobell site.
The Council’s announcement of investment in athletics facilities for Beddau, and the commitment to invest in major improvements in Clydach Vale, means the three main areas of the County Borough will have access to modern, state-of-the-art track facilities – a model no other area in Wales can match.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “This investment will further strengthen our pledge to improve the outdoor leisure offer for residents through #RCTinvest. “The Council is delivering upon its commitment to provide more and more communities with 3G sports pitches, which can be used in all-weather and help local sports clubs, schools and residents continue outdoor exercise in the winter months. So far, nine pitches have been delivered and four further schemes are being progressed in Porth, Ferndale, Beddau and Penywaun. “The new athletics facility in Beddau will be available for use by the school, the wider community and a variety of sporting clubs – and I’m sure it will be eagerly-awaited by the community as local interest has been huge. “Alongside future plans to modernise the athletics track in Clydach Vale and the delivery of £3m facilities in Aberdare, the Council will soon provide modern athletics tracks in the Rhondda, Cynon and Taf areas – for the benefit of communities right across the County Borough. This level of access to modern athletics facilities is not matched in any other part of Wales. It will lay the foundations for sporting excellence for years to come with healthier, fitter communities.” Councillor Joy Rosser, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, added: “This announcement is fantastic news for Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School and the wider community which will, I’m sure, welcome this additional facility to provide additional sporting amenities. This new investment will add to the excellent sports facilities currently at Bryncelynnog, which include a swimming pool and external changing rooms. “The Council has invested significantly to provide 21st Century Education facilities for our young people – and this includes improving outdoor leisure opportunities by providing the very latest facilities. New 3G pitches have been delivered at Y Pant, Tonyrefail, Aberdare and Tonypandy schools, while the most recent project was delivered in Church Village earlier this year for the benefit of pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Garth Olwg. “I’m looking forward to visiting Bryncelynnog later this year to see the progress being made on the sports development.”

In October 2017, Cabinet agreed funding for the 3G pitch in Beddau – and the Council will now invest further for the athletics track. Construction works will begin during autumn 2018, and will be completed by early 2019.
