Weekend Preview

There is another big weekend of sporting action for all our teams in the Club.

The 1st XV will welcome Narberth to Mount Pleasant Park in their third WRU National Championship fixture of the season.

The Otters have been one of the strongest outfits in the Championship for some seasons and will be a big test to the Green and Golds good start to the season.

Narberth started the season with a bonus point 35-19 win over Newbridge but had their colours lowered last weekend by Cardiff Met 32-15. They will certainly be looking to bounce back this Saturday and ensure that Beddau do not record their third victory of the term.

Beddau recorded a rare double over the West Walians last season. A 26-11 win away from home was followed up by an emotional 29-28 victory on February 4th at Mount Pleasant as the Club paid tribute to Tom Owen. Jack Dando grabbed a brace of tries that afternoon with Jordon Goodwin and Carl Lewis also getting over the whitewash. Hywel Chatham was in good form with the boot kicking a penalty and slotting three conversions in a thrilling encounter.

Games between the Clubs have always been tight affairs with Saturday expected to be no different. One thing is for sure is that there will be a big welcome back at the Clubhouse for our friends from the West.

Match referee is Mr Stuart Kibble (Cardiff).

Kick-off is 2.30pm.

The 2nd XV have a break from Mid District Worthington league action this weekend but will face perhaps the biggest challenge to their 100% start to the season as they make the trip to Brecon.

The mid-Wales outfit are also currently unbeaten and have had two big wins in the Mid District Division Two. They followed up a good opening day 36-10 win at Brecon with an excellent 25-22 win over a good Rhydyfelin outfit at Parc de Pugh last weekend.

Brecon travelled to Mount Pleasant Park last season in the Ivor Williams Cup 1st round and deservedly took the spoils by 16-0 so the young Green and Gold squad will no doubt be aware of what to expect this weekend.

It was pleasing to see that coaches Tomos Preece and Riaz Majhoti had over thirty boys available for last week’s home win over Mountain Ash and they will need a strong squad for this Saturday’s tough trip.

Kick-off is also 2.30pm.

The Youth XV will finally get the chance to get their league campaign underway, but it couldn’t have been a tougher challenge as they welcome Treorchy to Yorkdale in the Blues BB league (2.30pm).

The Zebras had an unforgettable last season, sweeping all before them in winning their league, District Cup and WRU Bowl. They are again fancied to have a good season under the guidance of former Bridgend and Treorchy favourites Ian Greenslade and Carl Hammans.

Beddau though can be confident going into the game after having a very good pre-season both on the training ground and playing field. They beat a very good Caerphilly outfit last weekend and have already defeated Tondu, Ystrad Rhondda and Tylorstown in the build up to this big game.

MINI & JUNIOR RUGBY

Our mini & junior “Bulldogs” are once again in action on Sunday and would appreciate any support. These youngsters play the game week in week out with the correct spirit and always with smiles on their faces and are a joy to watch. So, if you have time this Sunday pop along to any of the fields at Mount Pleasant or Yorkdale and see our “Bulldogs” having plenty of fun.

DARTS

Our table topping “Bowcats” team will be hoping to keep or even extended their lead at the top of the Pontyclun & District Darts league this Friday when they make the trip to Thomastown Social & Institute Club to face the Thomastown Beerkats.

The Beerkats have not had the greatest of seasons thus far but are more than capable of beating anyone on their day. They currently sit at the basement of the table with a single win from thirteen games.

Last time the teams met was in Beddau in June, when a maximum from Ian “Bompa” Phillips inspired the “Bowcats” to a big 7-0 (14-3 legs) victory.

They know it will be tough to repeat that result but if they did it would give them a huge boost as they look to extend their two-point lead over Ogmore B, who have a game in hand, at the top of the ladder.

The game starts at 8.15pm and any support would be appreciated.

FOOTBALL

Cwm Welfare AFC are once again in South Wales Alliance Premier league action this Saturday and face a tricky away tie at Ton & Gelli BC.

The Rhondda Club have recorded two wins and five losses from their opening seven games and stand a point and four positions behind Cwm in the table.

Cwm will be keen to get back to winning ways at Ynys Park after coming out on the wrong end of a 6-4 score line with leaders Sully Sports last weekend.

The young squad is showing plenty of promise and are certain to go on a good run of form in the not too distant future.

Kick-off is also 2.30pm.

ENTERTAINMENT

All the live Premiership football, Guinness and Aviva rugby, plus all the other top sporting action can be seen at the Clubhouse in HD on the many big screens and large TV’s this weekend. A warm welcome will await all members and bonifide guests.

Membership is also being taken at the Club if you want to be part of a friendly community based Club.

Have a great weekend.
