Green & Golds Prepped For Bridge Showdown

Our 1st XV face another vital National Championship fixture tomorrow as Newbridge make the trip to Mount Pleasant Park.

Both teams have not had the greatest of starts by their high standards and Saturday's fixture could arguably already be called a relegation battle. Beddau will be buoyed by an excellent win over Newcastle Emlyn a fortnight ago whilst their Gwent opposition will be given a lot of confidence from their battling performance against a good Tata Steel outfit in their last run out.

Newbridge have just a solitary win this season and that was against Rhydyfelin on the opening weekend of the season with a 21-12 victory. They currently sit second from bottom on six points which is six points adrift of Beddau who are occupying the last relegation post at present.

Bridge also have picked up hard earned losing bonus points in the game at home to Tata and a close 16-13 defeat at the Welfare ground against Bedlinog.

There have been some big and tough fixtures between the Clubs for many seasons now and there is a lot of respect at Beddau for our opposition and their back room staff. Tomorrow will again be a tough and close fixture.

Last season there was a win apiece in the games in the National Championship. Beddau won the early season fixture at Newbridge with an excellent 29-24 success thanks to a brace of tries from player-coach Tom Slater plus individual scores from Leon Rogers and Joe Casella. Hywel Chatham also had a good afternoon with the boot slotting three conversions and a penalty. Then in the reverse fixture at Mount Pleasant it was Newbridge who took the spoils in the mud. Despite a penalty try and a conversion and a penalty from Zac Byard the Green and Golds lost out 14-10.
