Saturday Preview

There is a full schedule of league / Cup fixtures for our three senior teams this Saturday.

The 1st XV will finally get on to the field for their first competitive fixture since August 14th when they make the trip to Ystrad Rhondda in a WRU Championship Cup fixture.

The Rhondda side have enjoyed a great deal of success in this tournament and are currently top of Pool B after recording a double success over Glamorgan Wanderers and a very impressive 27-12 win over Cardiff Met at the end of August.

Beddau haven’t enjoyed much success at Gelligalad over the last few seasons but will be hoping to put in a good performance on Saturday as they look at new combinations and develop for the start of the new Championship season at Bargoed on Saturday November 13th.

Lloyd Peart makes his return at scrum half whist Danny Hunt, Peter Isaac and Kalum Bundy are called into the squad after impressing with the second team recently.

Team - C. Baker, H. Bryant, A. Ashford, S. Burrows, C. Ellis, H. Chatham, L. Peart, M. Morgan, E. Coombes, B. Lee, L. Jones, S. Tiley, S. Khan, J. Goodwin, L. James. Reps - G. Powell, D. Hunt, P. Issac, D. Francis, K. Bundy.

Kick off is 2.30pm and the match referee is Mr. Thomas Spurrier.

The 2nd XV will be hoping to keep their good start to the season going as they welcome Mountain Ash to Mount Pleasant Park.

The Green and Golds currently top the Mid District Division A table after two good performances and victories over Brecon and Merthyr. They will face more tough opposition this week as the Old Firm will no doubt be keen to lower Beddau’s colours and take their 100% league record from them.

Mountain Ash suffered two close defeats to Aberdare and Penallta in their opening two games.

Kick off is also 2.30pm and match referee is Mr. Macieg Byles.

The Youth XV will be keen to bounce back from last weekends loss at Llantwit Fardre when they face Rhydyfelin at the Hawthorn Playing fields.

This game was originally scheduled to be played at Yorkdale but due to the field work at Llantrisant RFC the Black Army have been granted the use of the facility this weekend.

The young Green and Golds will face a good Rhydyfelin outfit  who have already played two Cardiff Rugby North B Cup fixtures. They also suffered a defeat to Llantwit Fardre recently but got back to winning ways in excellent fashion with a big 60-13 derby day win at Ynysybwl last weekend.

Beddau have continued to develop and improve as a team but without getting the results that they have deserved. The players have given their all in recent weeks and if this attitude continues then the wins will no doubt follow.

Again this game kicks off at 2.30pm with the match referee being Mr. Idris Davies.

  • Good luck to all our mini and junior Bulldogs on Sunday. Once again some great rugby will be witnessed and played in the right spirit.
