A Very Happy Saturday

It was a fantastic Saturday for our three senior teams as they all recorded notable away league wins.

The 1st XV travelled to the Ely Memorial Ground to play a Glamorgan Wanderers side that had only been beaten once this term in the WRU Championship East and as expected it turned out to be a really tough encounter.

The hosts were quick out of the blocks and took an early 8-0 lead before Beddau got on the scoresheet with an Ethan Coombes try which was converted by Callaghan Smith. The only scores in the final twenty minutes of the first half were all penalty goals as Smith kicked two further goals which was equalled by the Wanderers who took the slenderest of 14-13 lead at the interval.

It was the home team who got on the scoreboard first after the break with a penalty before James Davies took centre stage. The centre was to cross for tries in the 54th and 74th minute, one of which was converted by Smith, to take Beddau to a 25-17 lead. But there was more to come and when the Wanderers hit back in injury time to score a converted try there was lots of nails being bitten. But the Green and Golds continued to press and were awarded a penalty in which Callaghan Smith converted to give Beddau a deserved 28-24 win.

This was a great team performance, particularly in the second period. The forwards worked tirelessly against a bigger side and got their rewards.

There is a quick turnaround now before second placed Penallta visit Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday for what is expected to be another tough encounter.

The Chuckles continued their unbeaten start to the season as they proved too strong for a resilient Cambrian Welfare in a WRU Conference fixture.

The impressive duo Rowan Jones and Ieuan Williams both crossed for a brace of tries, with Will Reeves, Lewis David, Ben Dummett, Kallum Bundy and Christian Bird also getting over the whitewash to go with the award of a penalty try. Owain Cotter and Kallum Bundy shared the kicking responsibilities and they both slotted three conversions each to give the final score of 64-0.

This victory sees Beddau go thirteen points clear in the table from CR Cymry Caerdydd in second place who are the visitors to Yorkdale this Saturday.

The Youth were also on the road in a Cardiff Rugby Premiership Black fixture at Fairwater and returned from the capital with a hard earned 19-14 success.

George Coombs led the way with a brace of tries whilst Ben Thomas also grabbed an important try score. Alfie Egan kicked two of the conversions as the young green and golds moved up to third in the table.

This young squad can take a great deal of positives from this performance and can look forward to the rest of the campaign with confidence.
