All three of our senior sides were in pre-season action on Saturday and they all showed promising moments that will get supporters excited for the new league season.
The 1st XV travelled up to Premiership outift Ystrad Rhondda and give their higher placed opponents a really tough enocounter. The teams were level 14-14 at the interval with the green and golds scoring a try from hooker Joe Page which was converted by Cody Baker and the award of a penalty try after a high tackle on flanker Cai Herdman as he rounded the last line of defence.
Beddau could have and maybe should have added a couple more tries as they played some very good rugby on times but the Rhondda Club pulled away in the latter stages with two tries to leave the final score at 26-14.
Head coach Lee Davies will have been happy with the performance of his side and the improvements that are being made. It was pleasing to see many youngsters come off the bench and really give the coaches food for thought in selection as they plan for the Talywain game next weekend.
The Chuckles were in good form as they came out on top by 39-0 at home to Cambrian Welfare.
Gethin Rogers, Jac Thomas, Caelum Cox, Will Reeves and Jack Rowe all crossed for tries for Beddau with Rowe's try being a spectacular length of the field effort. Kallum Bundy kicked three conversions and Travis Warhurst also got on the scoreboard with two further conversions.
Leading just 7-0 at the interval, Beddau clicked in the second forty minutes to deservedly take the spoils.
Next up is a local derby at Llantrisant on Friday evening as coaches Jason Powell, Tomos Preece and Dean Barnes build up their preperations for the WRU Conference league campaign.
The Youth XV won the local bragging rights with Llantwit Fardre as they produced some great rugby to come out 52-12 winners in their game at Yorkdale.
Skipper Rhod Chatterley lead the way grabbing a brace of tries whilst there was also good scores from Ethan Forkin, Max Luke, Tom James, Issac Hallett, Jace Jones and Evan Thomas. Efan Jones had an excellent afternoon with the boot kicking six conversions.
Beddau's coaching team will have been very happy with the performance and there was clear evidence that the players are taking on board things that are being worked on at training sessions.
Llantwit who are clearly a talented side never gave up and will certainly improve as the season progresses.
Next up for the Youth is an away friendly at Glynneath next Saturday.
