Tough times, but keep going...

We hope that you are safe and well as you read this.

The last few months have been unprecedented and extremely tough.

It has been particularly tough for some members and friends of our Club who have lost loved ones to this crippling virus and we as a Club send out our deepest condolences and want them to know they are in our thoughts.

As a Club and Community we have done yet again what we do best and come together to try and help and support others who require or deserve it. Although we are unable to form as a Community and Club due to social distancing the power of social media has come to the fore.

It has been fantastic to see all our mini and junior teams produce heart warming tributes to the NHS and key workers.

As a Club we raised over £1000 in a matter of days with the stickers for the NHS and we again thank everyone who purchased these and those that helped sell and get them produced.

Jack Humphreys from our mini and junior rugby section made us extremely proud by raising £110 recently carrying out some tough fundraising events.

The wider community has also been working hard and we salute proud Beddau boy Geraint Williams for raising over £5000 for the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in memory of his Grandfather.

Housing estates have joined together and raised money to give little bonuses to key workers such as postmen and bin men who have had to carry on their duties regardless of lockdown.

Well done everyone, we are not a bad little village.

Over the last couple of months we hope that our posts on social media of past sporting success and proud Club and Community moments have helped raise a smile and brought back some great memories.

We will continue to do this across our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms but we wanted to let you all know that the Club are not just sitting back and enjoying past glories but we are in planning for future success and happy times on the rugby field, in the Clubhouse and the Community.

We as a Club are like every other business and never ever planned anything of this magnitude ever to happen. We have received some great support from the WRU and local authorities who we would like to thank and with our Club finances in a stable condition going into this lockdown we are more than confident of coming out of the current predicament and we hope and pray that all Clubs and business will follow suit.

On the rugby side of the Club, we don’t have much information on when the game will return. There are talks about temporary rule changes which could speed up the return of the game but as always we will try and keep you informed.

Rest assured though planning for a new season is underway as if it was to begin in September. Officers, Committee, Coaches, back room staff are regularly holding meetings or have contact via zoom and watts app groups. We will be ready and eager to go.

Rugby is a big part of all our lives but it is insignificant to the fight against this awful virus. We as a Club continue to ask everyone to please adhere to the guidelines set out by the Welsh Government and if we continue to do this then we will soon be cheering on the boys and girls in green and gold and raising a glass with old and new friends at the Clubhouse.

We have some exiting plans and announcements in the pipeline and we can’t wait to get going again.

But in the meantime may we take this opportunity to thank all the NHS staff and key workers out there for all they have done and continue to do for us.

Stay safe everyone.
