Bonus Point Win To Start Campaign

Our 1st XV started their WRU Admiral Championship East campaign with a 45-7 win over a never say die Taylwain outfit at Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday.

After just three minutes a good break from man of the match Sam Edwards was supported by Taine Davies who raced across the field and under the posts to score his first try for the Club. Cody Baker kicked the extras. The Green and Golds kept the pressure up but the visitors defence kept firm for long periods before Baker kicked his first penalty of the afternoon.

Beddau finally managed to break through the Talywain defence again after 25 minutes with the hard working number eight Dylan Williams crossing outwide with Baker again being succesful with the conversion.

Strong defensive play from Beddau saw Talywain lose the ball on the half way line with Cody Baker then breaking free for a long run to the posts for a try which he converted to give Beddau a solid 24-0 half time lead.

The visitors started the second half stronger and threw a lot at the home team, but Beddau stood firm and it wasn't to be long before Ewan Roberts showed good foot work in a small space to go over the line for his first score of the new season. Baker was again spot on with the conversion.

A lot of credit must go to the visitors as they kept trying and were given some reward when scrum half Danny Davies scored a great individual try which was converted by Ethan Davies.

Beddau hit back with some more good rugby. Cameron Ellis calved out a great individual try and he was also on hand to set up a good second five pointer for Cody Baker. The prolific Baker kicked the two late conversions to finish with a personal haul of twenty five points.

There was a great deal for new coach Lee Davies and his coaching team to be happy with in this opening performance. The set piece was again good, the defensive work was excellent and some of the flowing rugby was very pleasing to see. Still though lots to work on in preperation for a tough away day at Mountain Ash next weekend.

The visiting team gave everything and will certainly grow into the Championship as the season goes on and will prove to be a tough opponents when we play the return fixture. It was pleasing to see all their players, committee and supporters stay at the Club afterwards.

A large crowd gathered at Mount Pleasant to watch the curtain raiser between the Clubs under 7s and 9s and this also proved to be a hugely entertaining affair.

Our thanks go out to High Motive who sponsored the match and chose Sam Edwards as their man of the match.
