Weekend Round Up

Despite a mixed bag of results on Saturday, it was great to see three senior teams on the field.

The 1st XV made the trip to the Rhondda to take on an Ystrad Rhondda outfit who have had an excellent start to the season.

The Green and Golds put on a battling display and played some good rugby in periods which resulted in tries for Sol Khan and Dai Francis which were both convered by Hywel Chatham who also had kicked a first half penalty.

The game ended in a 31-17 victory for the home team but there were many positives to take from the game which was only Beddau's second competitve game since lockdown.

Coaches Matthew Rees and Tom Riley would have been encouraged by the sight of a couple of young players getting game time and seeing several second team players making the step up and really putting their names in the mix for future selection. They will be keen though to work on basic errors that cost them dearly before they take on Glamorgan Wanderers on the weekend.

The 2nd XV really had to fight to keep their 100% Mid District league record against a hard working Mountain Ash outfit at Mount Pleasant Park.

Wing James Davies got the solitary try for the green and golds with Owain Cotter adding the conversion and slotting three penalties. Callum Wheeler who made his return to playing after a period working overseas also kicked a penalty in a tight 19-10 win.

This was another good advert for second team rugby with both sides giving their all. Again it was encouraging for Beddau to put out a strong side with several players having to make the step up to the 1st XV. Next up is a trip to Aberdare on Saturday.

The Youth XV's game at Rhydyfelin was abondoned late in the game as the referee suffered an injury. Rhydyfelin were on top in this game but with the game not completed it will have to be replayed. Further details on a the date for the replay will be announced.

Again, it was fantastic to see our mini and junior Bulldogs in action on Sunday and putting on some excellent performnces. A huge well done to all involved.

Also a massive well done to all of those from our Club who attended Boys Club of Wales trial at under 16s level on the weekend.
