Weekend Round Up

Our 1st XV were left disapointed when their Championship Cup quarter final at Gowerton was cancelled but there was still plenty of rugby for our supporters to watch with both the Chuckles and Youth teams in action.

The cancellation of the 1st team fixture means that they will now be given a bye into the semi final of the Cup where they could be drawn against Bedwas, Llanelli Wanderers or Tondu, all of whom enjoyed good wins in their quarter final games over the weekend.

The Chuckles continued their unbeaten start to the season with a very impressive 62-5 win over second placed Llanishen at Mount Pleasant Park.

Owen Rix and Christian Bird had a great afternoon as they both grabbed a hat-trick of tries. Half backs Luke Jones and Harri Abercrombie, along with skipper Peter Isaac and prop Luke Jones also got over the whitewash in what was an excellent attacking display by the Green and Golds. Shaun Bennett kicked two conversions and Owen Rix finished the day with a personal tally of 23 points after kicking four conversions.

This win sends Beddau a massive twenty one points clear at the top of the WRU Conference East table having won their first eight games of the league season.

There will be a break in the league programme now until the New Year, but there will be action on Boxing Day as the Chuckles will be hoping to retain the Carl Newton Memorial Trophy when local neighbours Llantrisant make the short trip up the hill to Mount Pleasant Park.

The Youth team would have left Yorkdale hugely dispondent after losing out 20-13 to a good Barry outfit in the WRU Plate.

Alfie John got the young green and golds solitary try whch was converted by Alfie Egan who also converted two penalties but it wasn't to be as the the Vale of Glamorgan outfit took their place in the next round.

The Youth will also be taking a break from competition rugby until the New Year but will face Gilfach Goch at their Welfare ground on Boxing Day in what is now becoming a regular festive fixture. Kick off is at 1pm.

All roads will now lead to Bedwas next Saturday as our 1st XV who currently top the WRU Championship East table face the team who are in 2nd place. This promises to be a Christmas Cracker of a game and there will be a supporters bus leaving the Club at 1pm. It will also act as our 9th out of 10 Glamorgan County Silver Ball games, a competition in which we also proudly sit top of the table in.
