Green & Gold Grind Out Vital Win In Championship Battle

Beddau flew out of the blocks in a game which became a nail-biter. To begin, Hywel Chatham found some space and set Lewis Egal free.  His pass to Callum Wheeler was adroitly transferred to Cody Baker to score at the flag.  Several sweeping attacks looked likely to increase the deficit but gradually the home side were finding their bearings.

A strong performance up front allowed ‘Banos to command the lineout and to continually make inroads at scrumtime.  Beddau`s defence was good, though and the home backs were unable to develop any momentum.

The pressure Trebanos were exerting had to deliver something and finally the pack got its reward when a series of close-range scrums ended with the referee going between the sticks for a seven-pointer.

It was 7-5 at half-time and Trebanos, driving from a lineout, had immediately laid siege to Beddau`s line.  The tackling was heroic and accurate but Kristian Jones was able to slot a drop-goal so that Banos were not leaving the attack zone empty-handed.

Beddau were beginning to develop options and forwards Sam Tiley, Rhys Owens and Tom Axenderrie were more and more carrying powerfully into their opposite numbers until some spaces bean to appear.  Twice forward passes brought threatening attacks to a halt but when the excellent Cellan Michael blotted his copybook by holding down following a menacing drive by the Beddau pack, his yellow card both reduced the Banos ranks and allowed Hywel Chatham to make it 10-8.

A collision in midfield was quickly cleared by Beddau and a sweeping move along the line was steered by Lewis Egal who straightened and timed a pass beautifully to allow Cameron Ellis space on the outside to finish a lovely try that Hywel Chatham converted.

A game that had been hotly, but fairly contested unfortunately boiled over right at the end.  A hit from Sam Tiley disturbed Banos possession with Jordan Goodwin then turning over possession.  Some heated reaction led to the referee identifying the replacement prop from Trebanos as the main villain.  In picking up the red card, though, he did see some measure of relief with Hywel Chatham sending his kick wide of the mark leaving the Banos bonus point intact.
