Indiscipline Costs Green & Gold Dearly

Yet more points drip away as Beddau, handed a rifle, demonstrate that target practice rarely extends beyond the foot as self-inflicted wounds again steal a win from under their noses.  Around three minutes in Rhydyfelin had found the touchline from a penalty.  Some ugly confrontational encounters ensued and when referee Stuart Kibble had about brought everything to order Beddau`s Glenn Slater committed an indiscretion which saw him removed from the action.

A penalty which initially was going to Beddau went instead to the hosts and Dai Grattan opened the scoring.

It needn`t take a lot to get players fired up for a local derby and here it was the aggrieved Beddau who rose more positively to the challenge and when Lewis Egal had set up good attacking ball centre partner Adam Ashford was held and Hywel Chatham stroked the penalty.

Rhydyfelin were making progress via the touchline where Kevin Briggs was a reliable source of possession but the Beddau tacklers were not giving an inch and when Rhydyfelin offended at a scrum on halfway some backchat took the kick into Hywel Chatham`s range and the outside half coolly took Beddau into the lead.

From another scrum Dai Francis spotted a gap, pinned back his ears and beat defenders on a thrilling run before finding Adam Ashford in support for an excellent try that Hywel Chatham improved.  There was, though, a substantial period of injury-time and when Beddau conceded a needless penalty at halfway Grattan`s pin point kick went to touch in the corner.  The drive behind the catch took the pack over for an unconverted try and it was 8-13 at half time.

Some early pressure from Beddau induced mistakes in the Rhydyfelin defence and when tacklers had strayed offside Hywel Chatham extended the lead.  The numbers were now beginning to have an effect and that, coupled with some creeping indiscipline, allowed Rhydyfelin to camp around the Beddau 22.  A lineout became a penalty after Beddau interference and Mr Kibble had signalled a further offence at the follow-up but Rhyd`s driving forwards didn`t need his help as they continued to complete the pushover try.  With an angled kick Dai Grattan landed a fine conversion and it was 15-16.

A period of retrenchmen by Beddau ended when Rhydyfelin`s increasingly influential forwards turned a scrum and two swift passes opened the midfield with the speedy Jordan Rees appearing on the outside to complete a very good try.  Beddau then threw everything into attack but Rhydyfelin defended ferociously with Marcus Jones shut out in the corner after Joe Casella had briefly opened the way but try as they may, and they certainly did, there was no way through.
