In the end Trebanos pulled away to a comfortable win on a day when the speedy and incisive play of their impressive backs proved too hot for Beddau.  It was the visitors who kicked off and who drove Trebanos back until the ball was killed and Hywel Chatham kicked the three points.  Oddly, that was the only penalty Beddau were awarded in the first half!

Keeping the momentum, Beddau were twice within touching distance of a try but on both occasions ceded a penalty that allowed Trebanos to clear their lines.  Suddenly, the direction of the game changed.  Scrum half Tom Lucas made a darting break and although tackled and held by his opposite number was allowed to play the ball and a quick pass put hooker Rhys Thomas in for a try converted by Matthew Edwards.  If this could be dismissed as a temporary set back, Beddau were soon staring down the barrel agan as winger Sam Davies picked off an easy interception at halfway to run in unopposed.  Matthew Edwards again added the extras.

All of Beddau`s instincts had been to attack and if one of their bullets had wounded their own foot it had not dented their ambition.  Their next salvo, however, saw something of a repeat.  A dink aimed for Joe Casella was well fielded by Trebanos centre Tom Dew who put outside half Lewis Humphries into space and his well-timed pass sent Sam Davies in for his second try with Matthew Edwards converting.

Joe Casella had bruised his ribs in the collision in chasing the kick and had to leave to be replaced by back row man Marcus Jones.  Beddau`s woes though had not come to an end and when a maul was brought to a halt Mr Davies clearly saw a Beddau offence despite the presence of weighty centre Stefan Lewis who was contributing while off his feet.  It was a kick of some distance but Matthew Edwards was in fine form and swallowed it.

Beddau then drove forcefully from the restart.  Hywel Chatham had probed either side of the advancing pack until Jordan Goodwin took a pass and fed Marcus Jones who scored a fine try that Hywel Chatham converted.  In the build up Mr Davies could be heard declaring “Advantage over” so, presumably had been on the point of awarding a penalty.

Now it was 24-10 and Beddau could entertain thoughts of staging a recovery.  The restart kick was taken out of the air by Tom Dew who ran in the easiest of tries.  The Matthew Edwards conversion made it 31-10 at half time with Beddau`s coffin receiving another nail

Maybe it was the direction of the wind but the saintly Trebanos suddenly became sinners because Beddau were awarded two penalties in the first ten minutes of the second period.  They kept the ball alive with some lively passing.and strong running with Callum Wheeler even shrugging off a forceful head high tackle in finding the supporting Hywel Chatham to score the try.

A swift and clever attack was initiated in the Trebanos midfield and although a Beddau tackle initially dislodged the ball outside half Lewis Humphries was quickest to it and raced away for an unconverted score.

At the next breakdown Beddau`s Jordan Goodfield was shown yellow while competing on the floor.  Hardly had he returned than Hywel Chatham was red-carded.  Having contested possession from his own kick ahead Chatham was struck from behind by the racing Luke Griffiths who, up to that point had been in excellent form at full back.  A grapple ensued and ended when Chatham threw a punch.  The card was immediate and the lengthy sermon administered to Trebanos suggested that they too would suffer some kind of sanction.  Not to be.  There was still time for Beddau to add another chapter to “How I wrote my own misfortune” when despite toiling to win possession in a forward battle the ball was left on the floor for a grateful Jack Perkins to scamper to the corner with the touchline conversion rubbing salt in the wound.

For Beddau this was a chastening experience and being hard on the heels of losing to local rivals Rhydyfelin will test the mettle of a side that will have to put these set backs behind them.  They will feel aggrieved that a high tackle on Callum Wheeler escaped sanction as did a tackle on leaping flanker Sam Tiley while still in the air.  Wheeler, happily, was able to shake it off but Tiley was in some discomfort with the rib area heavily strapped.
