Beddau Prepped For Big Bridge Clash

Our 1st XV will make the trip up to the Gwent Valley tomorrow for a hugely important WRU National Championship league game against Newbridge.

The two teams are heavily involved in a relegation fight at the bottom of the table that could see four of eight teams possibly make the drop into Division One next season.

Beddau are a solitary point in front of their hosts in the table but do have a game in hand. Newbridge currently sit in the drop position of tenth spot with twenty nine points from nineteen games. They have had good wins against Cardiff Met, Newcastle Emlyn, Trebanos, Rhydyfelin and won the game with Beddau at Mount Pleasant Park in November by 25-20 this season. Their two remaining games after Saturday sees them battling with other relegation threatened teams Newcastle Emlyn and Rhydyfelin.

In the 25-20 defeat to the former Merit table Club, two former Beddau players got on the score sheet for Newbridge as former Club favourite and back row man Christian Francis grabbed a try and Sam Withers kicked twelve vital points. Back Matthew Davies also crossed for two tries. For Beddau forwards Josh Thomas, Ben Stephens and Rhys Owens all crossed for tries and Hywel Chatham kicked a penalty and conversion.

Beddau are on a good run of form and are unbeaten in three competitive games and have accumulated sixteen points from their last possible twenty five on offer. A win at the Welfare ground tomorrow will ensure that the Green and Golds destiny remains in their own hands but they are only too aware that their hosts are also battling for their lives.

Head coach Lee Jarvis welcomes back props Ben Stephens and Ben Lee, back row man Josh Thomas and winger Kieran Gay into the squad after they missed the win at Newcastle Emlyn three weeks ago.

Kick off is 2.30pm and the match referee is Mr Anthony Price (Newport).

Beddau – Cody Baker, Kieran Gay, Tyler Wells, Lewis Egal (capt), Adam Ashford, Hywel Chatham, Tom Marley, Ben Stephens, Ethan Coombes, Ben Jones, Rhys Owens, Sam Tiley, Tom Axenderrie, Jordan Goodwin, Josh Hayward. Reps Tom Geere, Ben Lee, Shaun O’Rourke, Josh Thomas, Jack Secher.
