Our 2^nd XV had the Ivor Williams Cup ripped from their hands with a final play try and conversion by Ystrad Rhondda in the final at Penygraig last night.

A very good crowd gathered at a sunny Graig Park and they observed an absolute thriller of a game with the teams equally sharing ten tries on the night.

Beddau started with a try for wing man James Davies before Ystrad pressure saw them go over for a converted try which was soon followed up by a successful penalty. The Green and Golds put late first period pressure on their Rhondda opponents and they were rewarded with a good Rhys Lott try which fly half Callum Wheeler converted to make the half time score 12-10 to Beddau.

Ystrad started the second forty minutes the better of the two teams and crossed for an early try before Wheeler brought the scores level with a penalty. Beddau then enjoyed a good purple patch and good tries through wingmen Davies and Christian Bird gave the Green and Golds a ten point cushion. Again Ystrad came back and scored another good converted try, before a penalty try for Beddau ensured they regained what looked like a comfortable cushion going into the last ten minutes of play.

But Ystrad just wouldn’t give in and a try in the corner brought the scores to within just five points and then when Beddau thought they had done enough to regain the title and a lengthy spell of overtime had been completed Ystrad crossed under the posts for a converted try and conversion to take the trophy back to Gelligalad Park.

It was a very difficult result to swallow considering the performance that Beddau put in. All the players and coaches can hold their heads high and be proud of their efforts on the night, they couldn’t do any more. Credit must also go to Ystrad Rhondda who just wouldn’t throw the towel in.

This young Beddau side has plenty to look forward to and the Club wish to put on record their thanks to all the players, coaches and back room staff for all their efforts during the season. Enjoy the summer break and we go again pretty soon.
