2nds / Youth Come Up Short

Both our 2nd XV and Youth XV were beaten on Saturday in their respective league games.

The 2nds were beaten 26-12 by local rivals Rhydyfelin at Mount Pleasant Park. 2nd row Glenn Williams and back row man Danny Hunt grabbed the tries for the Green and Golds with Dane Clancy slotting a conversion.

Beddau started the game well and enjoyed the majority of possession and territory for the opening stages. There was a couple of try scoring opportunities squandered through handling errors while Rhydyfelin managed to score a try on their first real attack. Despite the game being fairly even for the remaining part of the first period the visitors managed to cross for two further tries.

In the second period Beddau came out and kicked particularly well which pinned back Rhydyfelin and resulted in the two tries. It looked promising at this point for the Green and Golds but credit to Rhydyfelin who defended well and gained a bit of a stranglehold to register a bonus point score with five minutes to play. A late surge from Beddau was kept out and meant that they could not get the score to get a losing bonus point that their efforts deserved.

Rugby operations manager Mal Davies said after the game "It's disappointing that we can play well in patches and not capitalise on chances created during those times".

The Youth XV without several regulars travelled to table topping Ystrad Rhondda and despite an excellent effort were beaten 17-6. This was a good test for the young Green and Golds and one which will give them some encouragement as they go into the WRU Youth Plate 2nd round game with Pontyclun on Saturday.
