Club Statement -Mr Scott Barnes

On Friday evening the Club for the third time in the same amount of weeks were given the tragic news that Scott Barnes had sadly passed away.

Scott, aged just 40 years of age had played rugby for our Club through every age grade in mini and junior rugby before moving into youth rugby and on to senior rugby.

After he moved to Jersey, Scott remained in constant contact with the Club where he had been a vice-President.

Scott was an extremely talented sportsman but he will be remembered more for the unique person and personality that he was and had. His smile was infectious. He just never seemed to be down and whenever he would appear he had the biggest grin of them all. He had a wicked and loud laugh that would instantly make you laugh and smile. He could turn a serious situation into a hugely humorous moment in an instant.

Scott’s former team mates will always remember his lucky purple vest that he wore under his beloved green and gold jersey at games. He loved Beddau RFC and he also had such pride in his village. You would see Scott either with a rugby ball or a snooker cue in his hand walking through the village. He could pass a ball like a scrum half, kick the ball like an outside half yet run like a prop!!!

He is going to be missed by so many.

When he left us to move to Jersey we always knew he was there supporting us and now after his passing we know that he will be looking down over us with that precious green and gold jersey that he loved so much with a smile that we will never forget.

Sleep tight the big man with a huge heart.

The Club passes on their deepest condolences to Scott’s family and many, many friends at this sad time.
