Gutsy Beddau Performance Against 1st Class Ironnmen

Beddau traveled to Welsh double Champions Merthyr on Friday in a pre-season fixture.

The young Green and Golds were decimated with injuries and unavailability behind the scrum before the game and  were hampered further during the game with more injuries with a particular nasty injury to player-coach Tom Slater taking the gloss of what was a superb first forty minute period that really tested the Ironmen.

Merthyr made lots of changes at the interval and showed exactly why they were double champions last season. Their pace, power and experience were too much for a never say die Beddau outfit who finished the game with three forwards in the back division.

The players and coaching staff will take lots of positives from the game particularly that opening period and can look forward to a nice trip to Redruth next weekend.

Our thanks to Merthyr for agreeing to switch the game after field works at Mount Pleasant Park had not been completed in time. They will certainly start the season as Premiership favourites and it will take some team to overcome them.

Beddau give debuts to new signings Ben White, Ben Jones and Tom Axendarrie who all gave outstanding performances.

With so many players due to return there are signs of a positive season ahead.

The Club and the supporters send their best wishes out to Tom Slater and hope its a speedy recovery. The other injuries sustained are not expected to be too serious.
